The term “legend” is increasingly used improperly, but when it comes to DJ Muggs there is no better word to describe the specific weight of the status he has held and still holds for Hip-Hop Culture, since the very early 90’s when he began to forge innovative sounds with Cypress Hill till now. The Myth and the mysteries that hover around his figure have been fueled over time by the fact of being, partly as a DJ and producer, partly by nature and his own demanding selectivity, led to operate more often in the shadows and away from spotlights. DJ Muggs’ contribution to culture, however, is not relegated, as with others, only to history books, but even today he continues to pass on his arcane aesthetic formula, carefully choosing his lyrical Assassins, as Master of a Sufi sect (last in order DaCloth’s Mooch), to keep alive the fire that animates the underground, still authentic form of this Culture, as opposed to microwave music and fast food served up by the music industry.
For these reasons we are humbled to have been able to document the first date of DJ Muggs’ European tour at the Biko Club in Milan (accompanied by DJ Brown, in the photo), that represented for the hundreds of devotees, including several pioneers and heavyweights of the Italian Hip-Hop scene, who came to pay homage to the Legend of DJ Muggs, a cult event. It’s quite obvious to say that the celebration of the show offered by DJ Muggs also exceeded expectations. Give him all the flowers and praises he deserves now rather than later!
Stay tuned for big surprises…
